“We got a good old fashioned whooping” were the first words from Thunder Bay North Star’s head coach after Red Lake’s 6-1 victory at the Gardens tonight.
Rob Degagne further described what both teams did in the 1st game of the best of seven final of the SIJHL season.
“They played very well, they played a great road game, and, we didn’t want pucks, we didn’t want to go to the net, we didn’t want to shoot, we didn’t want to compete, so if you don’t want to do any of that stuff, you’re not going to win.”
The coach adds his team knows more effort is needed if they want to beat a Red Lake team that’s doing well against them.
He says the Miners were on a 3-game win streak against his team before tonight.
“They’re playing well against us, they seem to find a formula, so we have to find something to fight back, and hopefully we go on our 3 game winning streak.”
And, the head coach points out there’s no need to get angry, noting the team just wasn’t prepared, of which he is ready to take the blame.
“It’s really hard to say anything, I mean, it didn’t matter what we were going to do, it wasn’t going to work. But, some games you just don’t have it, and tonight we just didn’t have it, so, we’ll be better tomorrow.”
The North Stars coach adds his team knows what to do, and hopefully will tomorrow night at 7:30 at the Gardens for game two.
