Kashechewan To Be Evacuated

Emergency Management Ontario admits it’s going to be a very challenging spring in terms of flooding in the James Bay area.

It says Kashechewan is the first to make the request,

EMO Deputy Chief Aileen Cassells says the situation is already dire in some communities.

Other affected communities being monitored include Moose Cree, Fort Albany, Attawapiskat, Weenusk, and Fort Severn.

Cassells estimates about 4,000 people are affected.

Snowfall amounts are 40-centimetres higher than last year and emergency officials are anticipating a bad ice break-up as the warm weather arrives.
