Energy Minister Greg Rickford says people deserve to know exactly now much money the new federal carbon tax is costing them.
He’s starting with proposed legislation requiring stickers on the pumps to explain the costs.
The Kenora-Rainy River MPP is also looking at the Ontario Energy Board to include a line item on natural gas bills identifying the tax.
Rickford says “If they refuse, we will use every tool in our toolbox to make sure that Ontario families, that Ontario businesses, Ontario farmers, know exactly what this unconstitutional cash grab is going to cost them.”
He stresses transparency measures are needed to show the true cost of the tax and how it will make life less affordable for Ontarians.
The province believes the cost of the carbon tax is $648 per household.
Today with @RodPhillips01 I announced that at every gas pump across Ontario, drivers will soon know the impact of the federal carbon tax on their wallets. This would take the form of a "gasoline transparency sticker" that'll identify the hidden federal carbon tax. pic.twitter.com/q67Eotbul7
