Mauro Still Against Truck Route

Don’t expect the Mayor to change his mind on the designated truck route.

Bill Mauro says when the by-law comes back he will continue to oppose it.

He explains if the by-law is approved, it wouldn’t come into effect right away.

“There would be an implementation period,” Mauro notes.

If passed, the truck route would divert transports from Arthur Street and Dawson Road onto Highway 11/17.

Meanwhile, the city is looking to hire an outside consultant to do a thorough review of Thunder Bay’s services.

Bill Mauro feels there is a need to hire a consultant, and he understands that some residents don’t agree with their decision.

“This is an external review. I think that if we can remind the public why we’re doing this, and why it’s external, it would bring, I think, a different sense of credibility to the work that’s being done.”

The Mayor says if they haven’t already posted the position for the consultant, then they will be in the coming days.

He is looking forward to hearing from the consultant they are hiring to review Thunder Bay’s services.

Mauro feels it’s been a very long time since they’ve gotten a gauge on what the city’s programs entail.

A preliminary report on services is expected to be back before City Council before the 2020 budget.
