Province Consults Parents On Autism Changes

After backlash from the autism community, the province says it’s listening to parents of children with autism.

The Minister of Children, Community and Social Services Lisa MacLeod announced that on top of consulting parents this spring, they will come out this summer with a new way to assess how much support kids need.

The province is launching online and telephone town halls in May, and the opportunity for in-person meetings with MPPs.

Officials say they also plan to announce more help for children in the fall, that they promise will also include supports in school.

It comes after controversy about the government’s changes to the autism program and whether it was giving enough supports to children.
