The OPP in our region say they are continually surprised by the number of theft complaints they get from unlocked vehicles.
Kenora detachment Inspector Jeff Duggan says a majority of their mischief and minor theft reports are due to motorists failing to lock up.
Duggan says they have also investigated a number of break-ins to garages and out-buildings as well, because they also were not properly locked or secured.
Duggan says they’ve also been getting a number of complaints of propane tank thefts from area homes.
He says some police forces have gone so far as sending out “lock it or lose it” e-mail and text messages to homeowners to help curb the number of petty thefts.
