Area Chamber Supports Labour Changes

The Kenora and District Chamber of Commerce is endorsing the provincial government’s new Bill 47.

The Making Ontario Open for Business Act repeals the previous Liberal government’s labour legislation.

Ron Malashewski is the President of the Kenora Chamber and says the $15 minimum wage just went too far for their liking.

“That’s a fairly substantial increase for a small business to try to absorb,” explains Malashewski.

“It’s great to have a higher minimum wage to attract workers, but this particular increase was just too much too fast.”

Malashewski says a number of business owners he spoke to indicated the hike in the minimum wage to $15 would have been devastating to their bottom line.
