Health Unit Budget Approved

Thunder Bay’s Health Unit is bracing for a tight 2019 budget.

The Board of Health approved the fiscal plan and Medical Officer of Health Janet DeMille tells us it includes an increase in the amount municipalities pay towards public health services.

During the Board of Health’s monthly meeting it was noted the new contract for nurses was more than what they had originally budgeted for.

DeMille adds they’ve been warned there will be no increases in funding from the new PC provincial government.

The newly approved 2019 health unit budget includes the enforcement of where you can legally smoke cannabis in public spaces but no additional funding from the province to do it.
