Bridge building skills of five Lakehead University students has earned them first place at a regional competition in Iowa City.
Team leader Matt Olinski adds this allowed them to see bridge building from design on paper to testing of the bridge, but on a smaller scale.
He says from the 1st designs on paper to the final design, fabrication and testing of the bridge, it was a long process.
The team beat 11 others from the states and Manitoba, and will compete in Illinois at the 2018 National Competition.
Team mate Mack Barber adds the toughest part was transfering theory on paper to actual construction, as many changes can happen along the way.
The guys built a bridge about 1/10th the actual size of a bridge.
