Ford Draws Crowd At Rally

A big turnout for a rally for PC Leader Doug Ford Tuesday night.

Speaking to around 200 people, Ford criticized the Liberals on a number of topics like education, healthcare, and overcrowding at our hospitals.

He promised to improve conditions in the north, but didn’t go into detail on how he would put those plans into action.

When asked whether his vision for Ontario would include more work for the local Bombardier plant, Ford suggests that he supports the workers, but wants to see some improvements from its management.

“They have to be competitive, and most importantly, they have to be on time.”

He emphasized that he’s in favour of giving contracts to Canadian companies like Bombardier.

Some attendees were hopeful that Ford could get a Conservative foot-hold in our region in June’s election.

Kyle Durston tells us that it’s difficult to say for sure whether Ford’s leadership could help a Conservative MPP win a seat in the Northwest for the first time in several decades.

However, he’s optimistic.

“He has a bit more charisma than any Conservative leader that we’ve had in some time,” Durston notes, “In the Thunder Bay area, from the people that I’ve been talking to in my workplace and my circle, there’s much more approachability towards him,”

Ford’s visit to Thunder Bay finishes up his first tour of the north since being elected PC Leader.

He made stops in Sioux Lookout, Kenora, Lac Seul First Nation, and Dryden on Monday and Tuesday, and is scheduled to visit the Sudbury area on Wednesday. (Staff Photos)
