Two northwestern Ontario sites are going to act as a testing ground for the province’s new portable housing benefit program.
The initiative is for survivors of domestic violence and will be conducted in Thunder Bay and Kenora.
Survivors will be able to find housing in their communities instead of waiting for social housing units to become available.
It will be tried in 22 different communities, and based on the outcome the province will consider ways to enhance the program and extend it elsewhere.
