The number of Ontario residents registering for organ donation upon death has increased sharply, and Thunder Bay ranks as one of the highest.
Since the Trillium Gift of Life Network started the donor list in 2008, the participation rate has shot up 90%, with this city ranking among the top at 48%.
Trillium President Ronnie Gavsie says the goal is to continue making the donor registry a crusade, with 1,537 people waiting for a transplant.
She adds Thunder Bay’s number is high because this is a very close knit community, and people want to make sure their neighbour is taken care of.
