No Money For Event Centre

Thunder Bay mayor Keith Hobbs is now confirming that a request for funding for an events centre from the federal government has been rejected.

The city sent a letter to the feds for help, and he received a reply that confused him. Infrastructure Minister, Amarjeet Sohi said professional sports facilities aren’t eligible for funding under the Build Canada fund or the Gas Tax Fund, but Hobbs notes the proposed anchor tenant, the Lakehead University Thunderwolves, are not a pro team.

The mayor says MP Don Rusnak is supportive of the arena.

The mayor adds that regardless of the eventual outcome of this, the city will not give up in finding a way to build at the waterfront.
