There’s qualified praise for the Trudeau Liberals’ support of the NDP motion to spend $155 million dollars for indigenous child welfare services.
Indigenous children’s advocate Cindy Blackstock says it’s a good start, adding that going forward it’ll be essential for the government to make a substantial investment, which will help close the gap in children’s services on reserves.
She says the inequalities that now exist should not be allowed to affect future generations of First Nations children.
Blackstock hopes the motion is a tipping point and we’ll actually see the government comply. (File photo)
