Two top Liberal party insiders are now facing Ontario Election Act charges in connection with the party’s nomination process for last year’s provincial by-election in Sudbury.
The OPP say they’ve charged Patricia Sorbara with two counts of bribery and Gerald Lougheed Jr. with one count of bribery. Sorbara is Premier Kathleen Wynne’s former chief of staff. Lougheed is a Sudbury business owner.
One Liberal nomination hopeful alleges he was promised jobs if he dropped out of the race.
The contest was eventually won by Glenn Thibeault who is now the province’s energy minister.
