Ontario Looking Into Investigation Changes

The Ontario Government is looking for the feedback on how it investigates deaths.

Proposed changes they feel would strengthen the accountability and transparency of the process.

The Death Investigation Oversight Council already administers a public complaints process regarding death investigations to help make recommendations to the Chief Coroner, the Chief Forensic Pathologist and the Minister of Community Safety and Correctional Services on matters related to investigations.

The province is proposing to expand its role to enable the council to provide advice and make recommendations to the Chief Coroner with respect to whether a discretionary inquest is called.
