TBay, District Response Time Standards Merge

Superior North EMS says its one step closer to supporting faster paramedic response times to genuine emergencies.

At last night’s meeting, Council rubber stamped a plan to set up one response time target for Thunder Bay and the district.

EMS Chief Norm Gale says only 5 per cent of calls require a time-sensitive response, where every second counts, noting in the vast majority of calls, a rapid response time doesn’t change patient outcome. He adds, however, there’s a public expectation that when the public calls 911, paramedics will respond within minutes, and that leads to challenges in delivering the service.

Gale says the purpose is to establish a standard paramedics must meet inclusive of the district and city. (File photo)
