City police say that a weekend alert dealing with a possible student loan scam was premature.
Police spokesperson Julie Tilbury says the complaint from Lakehead University centred on worries they had with possible fraudulent emails from the company called the National Student Loan Centre.
She says detectives from the Economic Crime Unit followed up the complaint, but it turns out the emails were legitimate. Tilbury says it’s still wise to be cautious when responding to any requests for personal information.
