Thunder Bay is taking part in a province-wide celebration of historical buildings.
Today, 17 local landmarks will be on display to the public.
Spokesperson Pamela Cain says this year they’ll focus on sites related to World War 1.
“They’ve asked us to look at sites that help commemorate that,” she says. “The Whalen building itself was built in 1913, so it was sort of a pre-war and on the cusp of what was happening, but it celebrated its centennial and business moved into that building about 100 years ago, so we’d like to have a look at it.”
The Prince Arthur Hotel, Mountain View Cemetery, the Shuniah Masonic Hall and the Cenotaph are all on the list of tours, in addition to the Whalen House.
