Ninth Threat Closes Hammarskjold

Lakehead Public School Board is closing Hammarskjold High School.

This is the ninth anonymous threat made about the north side high school this year.

Buses will be returning students home. Students without home keys will be dropped off at Superior CVI.

All efforts will be made to reopen on Tuesday.

We spoke to a student Amy Brough who tells us it’s scary.

“Because you never know what’s going to happen if the school is going to be open or if it’s going to be closed today, or if you’ll be going into lockdown. I feel pretty safe with all the police here.”

She admits the closures have impacted her learning.

“It’s hard to get my education in because it is hard to try to learn on your own. The teachers put your classes online, but it would be better if we could be in class and the teachers could teach us.”

Fellow student Jake Kondrat feels the threats are out of his control.

“I mean it kind of sucks, but there’s nothing you can really do. As soon as there is a threat called in the police take over and they get you out safely.”

The Catholic and Public School Boards have since lifted hold and secures at several elementary schools.

Meanwhile, Hammarskjold parents and guardians are invited to attend an information session on this issue on Thursday at the school’s gym.

It runs from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Police continue to investigate the threats and are asking you to contact their tip line at 684-5001 if you have any information.
