2nd Quarter Good For Finances: Police

Recruitment, training and finances looking up for the Thunder Bay Police Service.

The novel Coronavirus put everything on hold, but the green light was given at the end of August to resume training new officers.

In the Second Quarter Variance Report, the force projected an overall favourable variance of $235,000, net of COVID impacts.

Police Chief Sylvie Hauth says the force used $250,000 on pandemic related expenditures.

OTHER QUARTER NOTES (January 2020 to June 2020)
  • Savings of $452,000 on six new guns and gangs officers as of January 2021
  • $405,000 shredded from the budget for an additional four NG911 call takers as of January 2021
  • Aboriginal Liaison Coordinator hiring will save a combined $64,000
  • Three constables replaced with special constables within court security and uniform, which saves $74,000
  • Originally from southern Ontario, Jason found his way here and fell in love with the community and music scene of Thunder Bay over twenty years ago. In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
