Comuzzi Resigns Conservative Nomination

The Conservative candidate for Thunder Bay-Atikokan is not running for election in the next provincial vote.

Moe Comuzzi has resigned the position, pointing to her disappointment with what she says is the government’s recent decision to severe the Northern Ontario School of Medicine from Lakehead University, despite concerns raised by people of northwestern Ontario.

She adds the government quickly introduced legislation without consulting anyone in the region, and that this will create new costs for area taxpayers.

The now former candidate says this does the opposite of what she wanted to do as PC member for the region. She notes finding efficiencies and waste in government, while delivering for people in northern Ontario, is why she sought the Conservative seat, but this doesn’t do that.

Comuzzi says significant questions still need to be answered, such as impact on taxpayers, accreditation of the medical school, and potential negative impact of delivering health care in the north.

She’s also urging Premier Ford to correct the situation, adding she believes he cares for the north, in respecting taxpayers and creating good jobs.
