Council Considers Subdivision Proposal

A subdivision proposal off Arthur Street West has city officials asking tough questions.

The expansion would consist of about 350 new lots.

The project is being proposed by the local Nadin Contracting Ltd.

Northwood Ward Councillor Shelby Ch’ng wondered how sustainable this subdivision would be.

“How can we say it is fiscally responsible if we don’t have any idea the return on investment for putting this in, collecting the tax dollars, are those tax dollars enough to sustain that subdivision.

McIntyre Ward Councillor Albert Aiello believes this may benefit the city, considering a projected increase in population.

Multiple councillors also feared this project promotes urban sprawl, mentioning the need for Thunder Bay to avoid this throughout the question period.

“In order to be ahead of the curve and be prepared for this mining boom we do need to start now.
