Port Welcomes First ‘Salty’ Ship

The Port of Thunder Bay is welcoming this year’s first ocean-going vessel.

The M.V. Federal Cedar is the season’s first “salty” ship and arrived at the Richardson Elevator Sunday morning.

This is the earliest start to the ocean-going navigational season in five years.

The Top Hat Honours, which are awarded to officials who open the freshwater and ocean-going seasons, go to Federal Cedar Captain Pradeep Dattajirao Nalawade and Chief Engineer Kalyan Kumar Roy.

The port says there will be no Top Hat Ceremony because of pandemic protocols.
