Two southern Ontario politicians say lockdowns are the wrong path to take in dealing with the pandemic.
Independent MPP Roman Baber says people have been hurt mentally and financially by this public health measure.
“Ontarians are at their wits’ end. People need to go back to work, kids need to go back to their routine, and we cannot continue this path of forcing isolation. It’s cruel and inhumane,” he says.
Baber feels the entire province should move to Green level of the province’s protocol while focusing attention on the most vulnerable.
Ontario MP David Sweet agrees, claiming lockdowns are a threat to the mental health and physiological well-being of those impacted.
“The financial consequences that family businesses, entrepreneurs, and workers are experiencing because of lockdown are huge. Restaurants Canada states that over 100,000 restaurants have closed in Canada,” he says.
Sweet says governments need a new COVID strategy that’s more transparent and focuses more attention on the most vulnerable.
