Robinson Hopeful Businesses Will Survive Lockdown

As businesses prepare for a two-week shut down, the Chamber of Commerce President is optimistic.

The province is banning in-person shopping at many businesses and putting other restrictions in place from Boxing Day until January 11th.

Charla Robinson notes she still wants more information on which businesses are considered essential, but doesn’t think this will be as difficult as the first lockdown.

“Right after Christmas until New Years and once school goes back, it’s kind of a quieter time for many businesses, so I’m hopeful that the impacts on their revenues won’t be as significant as it would have been if they’d done this a few weeks ago,” she points out.

Robinson says many businesses already switched to online ordering or curbside pickup early in the pandemic, but it will be difficult for those that haven’t.

The lockdown includes bans on indoor and outdoor dining and lower limits for grocery stores and supermarkets.

The Chamber President is hopeful this lockdown will help the area return to a yellow or green level under the province’s COVID-19 framework.
