Council Mulls Over Its Size

City council will be presented with three options as to how to proceed with possibly reducing its size.

Clerk Krista Power will strongly encourage council tonight towards the committee lead review option, starting in 2023 to put less strain on her office.

At Large Councillor Peng You feels a change like this should gain public support. “That’s why we need feedback from citizens… ‘What do you want?’… Then we make a decision.”

Mayor Bill Mauro will not say what number he supports reducing it to, adding it could lead to a greater workload for those still on it.

“I think the goal would be can you find efficiencies if you go to a smaller number? Would the meetings be more productive, would they be more timely, would you be able to focus more on just the main issues?” says the Mayor.

Westfort Ward councillor Kristen Oliver first brought up the idea back in August.
