Updates On Contentious Issues Before Council

It won’t be until March before city council hears options of what to do with the former Dease pool site.

Kelly Robertson is the GM of Community Services, and tells us COVID-19 has delayed staff from community consultations, especially since the provincial government has tightened social restrictions again. “So we need to respect those orders, to help contain the spread. So that requires some innovation in how we do engagement, and/or deferring engagement.”

Robertson points out city council was to hear the update this Monday.

She adds the pandemic has also affected city staff resources.

“Either because staff have been required to support the city’s response to the pandemic, or support reopening, and/or the staff were not in place because we deferred hiring, to help contain costs,” says Robertson.

She says it’ll require innovative ideas to gather that community input, from a few groups they will find ways to consult with. “The skateboarding coalition, another group is older, adult age group, and with the families that make use of the programming we had been offering in the McKellar area.”

Also Monday night, city council will hear about a nuisance by-law, and an update on the multi-use indoor turf facilty.
