We could see some cleanup at Boulevard Lake while the lakebed is drained.
Current River Councillor Andrew Foulds says they need to be careful not to damage the lakebed, but now’s the time to remove all the garbage and debris that’s been exposed. “Now is the time when I think it would be cheaper, since it is empty, to get the work done. So I’m just asking for a report to see what is possible short and long-term.”
He is also expressing concern about certain spots, considering animal waste and tree branches.
“If you, in particular, look at the north beaches, I don’t think they are good for swimming at right now. I just think they are too dangerous, even to walk in, never mind swim. So I think there’s an opportunity to clean up that,” says Foulds.
Council supported the idea, so they will get a report on a possible clean-up by the end of September.
