Mayor Wants More Information On Police Project

When it comes to the future of the Thunder Bay Police Station, the Mayor suggests he wants to see more information around the cost of fixing just the health and safety issues at the ageing building.

Speaking to Acadia Broadcasting’s John Ongaro, Bill Mauro says he wants to see what items need to be addressed when it comes to the Balmoral police HQ.

“There may be some things that we can not do without. There may be some decisions that are absolutely necessary when it comes to health and safety and if those things are gleaned from the report then that is something I might say we don’t really have a choice, if it’s about standards and health and safety,” Maruo said.

City Council received a report Monday night about the proposed $52-million project.

Council is telling a consultant to look into smaller neighbourhood offices, with a report expected back in late September.

Mauro suggested he would be interested in looking at satellite offices for police as a way of providing them with more space.
