Some Contentious City Issues On Backburner

A couple of contentious city issues, such as what to do with the VictoriaVille Centre, won’t come before City Council until at least July.

Mayor Bill Mauro wasn’t enthusiastic about that idea at Council Monday night, as city staff were given permission to pick what will be discussed during the State of Emergency.

“I do know when this has been discussed previously, using VictoriaVille as an example, there was some concerns expressed by Councillors [that] we wouldn’t be able to hold some public consultations related to some of the reports,” says the Mayor.

City staff reminded Council the Designated Truck Route by-law won’t be heard until the fall. The City Clerk still has to pick a date that all Councillors agree on to discuss the issue, which has caused several delays since it was last heard.

Road construction and fixing the Marina Park overpass are issues council is moving forward with, while others such as the police station headquarters and outdoor patios are among those it is seeking further detail on before proceeding.
