One City Councillor wants more workers to benefit from the province’s temporary wage increase during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Doug Ford introduced a $4 hourly pay hike for essential front-line employees in fields like healthcare, which is in place from April 24 to August 13 of this year. Full-time workers will get an extra $250 bonus each month, for a maximum of $1000.
A motion from Westfort Councillor Kristen Oliver recommends advocating for transit drivers and paramedics to be added to that list. It will be discussed at tonight’s City Council meeting.
Oliver says those city employees are doing important work during the pandemic.
