COVID-19 Cases At Mine Site Totals Seven

There are now seven confirmed COVID-19 cases associated with the Lac des Iles mine north of Thunder Bay. The mine’s owner Impala Canada says the seventh was positively identified by the Northwestern Health Unit Tuesday.

A timeline released by Impala shows the progression of the illness at the site.

  • The first case was confirmed late the evening of Tuesday, April 7th.
  • This individual was at LDI from March 29th – April 4th and passed all screening protocols.
  • Five cases were confirmed on Saturday, April 12th. Three of these individuals are in self-isolation and two are still on the mine site, in isolation and receiving medical care.
  • The 7th case was confirmed today, April 14th, by the Northwestern Health Unit. The individual has been in self-isolation before symptoms developed.

The company adds testing is underway for two individuals with symptoms. They are on site and in isolation.

  • Originally from southern Ontario, Jason found his way here and fell in love with the community and music scene of Thunder Bay over twenty years ago. In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
