Driver Escapes Truck Fire

The local driver of a wood chip hauler has escaped injury after his truck caught fire on Highway 11/17, just west of Eldorado Beach Road.

Shuniah Fire Chief Blair Arthur tells us they were called to the scene just after 1 o’clock Tuesday morning.

He says the fire was caused by a sticky brake on the tractor. The driver was able to separate the trailer and save that, while the back end of the tractor was burned.

The highway has since re-opened.
