Nipigon COVID-19 Case Travelled While Contagious

A COVID-19 patient from Nipigon was contagious while on a flight from Halifax to Thunder Bay, but health officials say not to panic if you were on the same flight.

They received a positive test result late Monday afternoon, and released more information about the person Tuesday afternoon.

Thunder Bay Health Unit Medical Officer of Health Dr. Janet DeMille says they are mostly concerned for passengers from rows 8 to 12 on Porter flight 222 on March 19.

“However, still a lot of things have to happen for that virus to transmit. It’s not necessarily a significantly high risk for those people, but we just wanted to make them aware,” Dr. DeMille explains, adding those people should watch for any flu-like symptoms.

If those passengers start to experience COVID-19 symptoms, Dr. DeMille says to contact the Health Unit.

She says the most risk was to anyone in the rows near this person, or who talked to them for an extended period of time.
