The saga of the Boulevard Lake Dam rehabilitation is coming back to City Council tonight.
A report is recommending they award the contract for the work to the firm Concrete Walls, who submitted a bid for $7.2 million.
Administration also advises hiring JML Engineering Ltd. for consulting engineering services for $1.2 million.
An Environmental Assessment is expected to be approved in May, and city staff hope the work can start this summer and finish in summer 2021.
For the first year of work, events at Boulevard Lake like Dragon Boat races will be cancelled because the lake will be drained to around half its usual depth.
City officials say most of the work is concrete repairs, but will also include widening the walkway across the dam and installing lighting.
The dam is not held up by its own weight, but instead has some internal reinforcement. New standards require the dam to have another set of reinforcements in case the first one fails.
