Some city dollars could go to more safety netting at local hoceky arenas if Council listens to one local man.
Speaking at a budget meeting this week, hockey timekeeper Gary Nistico says he recently saw a spectator get hit by a stray puck at a minor hockey game. He notes this is an issue at Delaney, Port Arthur, Grandview and Current River arenas among others.
“You’ve got netting, which is great, but it’s protecting a concrete wall. Nobody’s sitting there.”
Nistico says the city should invest in netting in front of all seating at its arenas, which is the case at arenas in Fort Frances, Dryden, and Kenora.
