A fine of $65,000 has been laid against a southern Ontario recycling company after a man was hurt at the former Kraft Paper Mill site.
Thunder Bay court heard in 2017, the man was working inside an excavator designed to pulverize and make a wall of a concrete building weaker for the structure to come down.
As he worked, the building came down on top of the machine, trapping him for several hours.
Court heard he was eventually taken to hospital with a non-life threatening injury.
SL Marketing has been charged for failing to carry out a required assessment of the building making sure it was safe before the man started the work.
The court found the southern Ontario company did train its workers to be able to do demolition work.
