Thunder Pride Chair Defends Crosswalk

Thunder Pride’s Chair is defending their proposed rainbow and trans flag coloured crosswalk from doubters on social media.

Jason Veltri tells us they feel this project is bigger than just community safety and has this message for those who feel it’s not necessary.

“What I would say to them is this is a community-building project and this is about showing inclusion and diversity of our community.”

The Thunder Pride Chair stresses they are looking to pay up to half of the potential $35,000 cost of the crosswalk and will also be speaking with the Business District to see if they want to chip in as well.

Two lines would be painted on the north side and one in the south core of Thunder Bay. Veltri notes the price of the work could be anywhere from $35,000 or less and a tender for the project has yet to go out.

The special paint used to create this type of crosswalk is expected to last up to five years as opposed to regular line paint that lasts up to a year.
