On Friday November 1st, the 1994 album ‘Monster’ from R.E.M. is having a 25th anniversary reissue and one Toronto record store has gone all out for it! Sonic Boom buys and sells new and used music on cassette, CD and vinyl and this past weekend, they created a monstrous window display using…get this…400 used copies of Monster that they had purchased but not resold over the last 15 years! I have to say, it’s a pretty impressive display! The CD cases are all up on the wall behind the blue bear costume and the blue discs themselves are scattered about the floor. Having worked music retail for years, I completely understand how they ended up with 400 copies of an album! I do wonder though, how many copies of the reissue are they going to stock if they couldn’t sell any of the 400 copies of the original they had? Check out the original Instagram post from Sonic Boom here!
Do you still have a copy of Monster in your CD collection? Or is it long gone to a used CD shop as well?
