Saturday night, the boys and I were delivering a present to a friend who just happens to be a nurse. As we were driving away I told the boys my ‘Dad Joke of the Day’ which was:
Why do nurses carry red crayons?
In case they need to draw blood!
What followed was 10 minutes of kid jokes that had me groaning, and then laughing until I had to pull over for fear of going off the road! My oldest pulled off a couple of really good jokes that really surprised me! My youngest needed to get in on the action, of course, and told about 10 jokes in a row all with the same punchline: ‘To get blown up by the mine turtle’. He’s a sweet kid, but they just weren’t funny nor did they make a lot of sense. He’s four, so he has an excuse. When we arrived back home, it was time to watch the mine turtle video, of course. You might not have heard the song, so I’ve posted it below for your viewing/listening pleasure!
I like to think my kids get their sense of humour from their parents (their mom has a good sense of humour and I’m told I do as well) but I think school has an influence on that as well. Hence the plethora of poop jokes that come out of my kids regularly. Actually those could be from me too…anyway, it’s interesting to see them pulling bits from their friends and what they’re seeing on tv/youtube and adapting it. I don’t think we really spend much time thinking about the ‘how’ of our senses of humour but when faced with piles of Barbie and Minecraft jokes it starts to become a bit clearer.
Have your kids surprised you with a really good joke lately? Or a really terrible one? Share them here and I’ll start sharing some of the better ones on air!
