Cargo shipments are up this season at the Port of Thunder Bay thanks to Canada’s political disagreement with China.
CEO Tim Heney tells us 370,000 extra metric tons of canola has come through the port this year.
He says since China banned exports of canola from Canada, farmers have been looking for other countries to sell it too, hence the reason for the increase through our port.
The port CEO says the other big story to watch for is the grain harvest on the prairies since farmers there have been struggling with poor weather.
On the whole, the port is reporting the total cargo shipments of 5.9 million metric tons is 9 percent ahead of last year.
