Bill Mauro hopes the city won’t feel the full impact of funding cuts to local service boards.
The Mayor is putting a motion on tonight’s City Council agenda, directing city staff to talk to the Health Unit, District Social Services Administration Board, and Lakehead Region Conservation Authority Board.
“It is my hope that those boards don’t automatically make a decision to just back-fill the cuts that the province has announced, but will give some consideration before they simply pass on that added expense to the property tax payers in the city.”
Mauro says a silver lining of the provincial funding cuts is that they have time to react to them before the 2020 budget discussions.
The cuts were originally announced earlier this year, taking Mauro and Council by surprise during budget talks.
They were to take effect this year but were retracted, but Mauro indicates the province is bringing them back in 2020.
