Lakehead University has a new Dean for their Bora Laskin Faculty of Law.
Dr. Jula Hughes is currently a professor at the Faculty of Law of New Brunswick and will start at LU on October 1st.
She says she’s excited to start the position, adding she has a number of priorities she wants to address.
“We have an opportunity to hire more faculty, so that’s going to be an important first preoccupation, to recruit really excellent people.”
Hughes holds a two-year appointment as University Research Scholar and is the principal investigator on a Status of Women Canada funded project that supports families and friends of missing Indigenous people.
“I’ve been doing quite a lot of work with Indigenous organizations,” she notes.
Prior to her appointment at the University of New Brunswick, she practiced labour and human rights law in Ottawa.
