Doesn’t look like much came from tornado watches and warnings issued by Environment Canada for certain areas of northwestern Ontario.
Meteorologist Peter Kimbel says they were focused along the US border.
“The only indication that we actually had that there was anything significant was a report, or a photograph, of what looks like a funnel cloud over Lake of the Woods last evening.”
Environment Canada notes greater concern of tornados further south of the border, where the air is warmer.
Kimbel admits tornados can happen in this area.
“Quite a few years ago in the Sioux Lookout area, in fact there was a serious one that caused fatalities. The fishermen ironically from the states, they were at a fishing camp, in Sioux Lookout.
As for the warmer temperatures for Thunder Bay, it’s expected to cool off by the weekend.
Hydro One continues to restore power to those left in the dark by last night’s storm.
Just a few are left in the Rainy River district.
Hundreds were effected at the height of the storm which brought heavy rain, strong winds, hail and tornado warnings.
