Former Trucker Welcomes E-Log Books

Truckers in Canada will soon have to electronicaly log the amount of time they sleep and drive while on the road.

Acadia Broadcasting’s Geoff Waterfield is a former trucker who agrees with the new legislation, noting with paper log books it is easy for a trucker to lie about how much he or she has slept.

He explains, “there is no lying with an electronic log, it can’t be done.”

The former truck driver admits it is easy to lie on a paper log book, noting he has seen it done.

The new rule was one of the recommendations of a coroners report into the 2017 bus crash involving members of the Humboldt Broncos hockey team.

It will take effect as of June 12, 2021.
