The Ontario Trucking Association hopes to see some changes to the Designated Truck Route by-law if it comes back to council.
Ontario Trucking Association’s Geoff Wood explains the way the proposed by-law was written would ban trucks from making pit-stops at grocery stores or parking, based on their maximum weight when loaded.
It would restrict where trucks can go based on the maximum weight they can carry, not how much they weigh at the time.
“If the driver simply wants to go on one of those routes that would be restricted based on their registered gross weight of the vehicle, they wouldn’t be able to do that.”
The designated truck route to limit trucks to Highway 11/17 failed at city council Monday night, but could still be reworked or scrapped entirely.
