A group of cyclists want the city to move ahead with a proposed bridge between Carrick to Vickers Streets.
Cycling advocate Ken Shields says they’ll be rallying at the trail at Carrick and Waterford Streets at 7:00 tonight, and then holding a mass bike ride to City Hall.
“We want to get it brought to the public’s attention and get some support behind it, and a budget to get a link between Vickers and Carrick Streets.”
The cyclist notes the city received $850,000 in provincial funding for the bridge project, but has to use it by the end of 2020.
“The city earmarked that for a bridge, however it did not match the funding, let alone set aside any budget for building the bridge,” he explains, noting the total cost is projected at around $1 million.
The event is being held by the group Just Bike Thunder Bay.
