City councillors will get a look at a plan for an indoor turf facility at Chapples Park tonight.
Rebecca Johnson says the city needs to look at such a facility, but she will put a lot of thought in before making her decision late next month.
“How do we afford that, how do we manage it, how do we provide the opportunity for youth, particularly, but for all sectors that would use an indoor turf facility?”
She adds they also need to hear residents’ feedback.
“I appreciate the opportunity to hear what the community has to say this next month,” Johnson says, “Whether they feel we can manage it financially, whether they feel that’s the best location for it, and whether they feel it is the best use of the facility.”
The initial report coming to council tonight recommends investigating the site, engineering work, and developing construction plans, which will cost $3.6 million.
It says the overall cost of a permanent metal building is $30 million.
