Delta-Marriott Opens With Fanfare

After years of uncertainty, the new Delta by Marriott Hotel at Prince Arthur’s Landing on the north side waterfront is finally open.

The eight-story $15 million hotel has 149 rooms and features a 6,500 square foot banquet facility which can seat up to 380 people, and a restaurant called “The Anchor and Oar.”

Developer Gisele MacDonald of the Resolve Group says that after all the “extreme struggles” and uncertainty she “had to believe this day would come.”

Hotel Manager Corinne Oatman-Howell notes there are already conference bookings which go into 2020 and 2021 which includes Indigenous, business and social gatherings.

Oatman-Howell says they currently employ about 70 people which she hopes will grow to about 95 in the months to come.

The new facility is getting praise from Mayor Bill Mauro, who notes it is essential to have private sector investment of this scale in the community.

The hotel features a Presidential Room which costs $495 a night during peak periods and, we are told, is already booked for the Thunder Bay Blues Festival in July.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony was attended by staff members and about 40 guests including the mayor, and City Manager Norm Gale.

A grand opening is expected next month.
